Snowboarding Info

With resorts in around 39 states, the snowboarding possibilities in the USA are almost limitless, and awesome ‘boarding terrain can be found in many parts of the country.

The best known spots are mainly in the west of the country, in Oregon, California, Colorado, Nevada and Wyoming, but there’s also some awesome riding to be found in the east: Massachusetts, Michigan and New York State all have plenty of resorts and good annual snowfall.

And then there’s AK, of course. If you’re looking for some serious back-country riding, Alaska is about as good as it gets.

General Info

Language

The USA is an English speaking country.

Although, if you really want to get into it, there were originally thousands of indigenous languages, most of which have died out over the years. A handful, however, are still spoken in some communities, Navajo being probably the best known of them, with the largest number of speakers. You can be pretty sure you won’t need to be able to speak Navajo to buy a burger at a mountain resort! (Although, it could be fun to try).

Getting There

Visa

The USA has a Visa Waiver Program, which will allow you to visit the country for up to 90 days without a visa. The countries currently included are:

Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

There are some fairly particular requirements for the type of passport needed to enter the US on the Visa Waiver Program, so please have a good read of this page when you’re planning your trip.

Visitors from countries not listed above will need to apply for a visa, and can find info on that at the US government website.
